Discouraged but not giving up!
May 11, 2026

It has been a couple of months since I did author comments. For one, I’ve been very busy with writing and closing on a Florida purchase we made to allow us to spend the winters in Florida. The picture shows me about to dig into a wonderful meal aboard the Celebrity Constellation ship. We spent two weeks on it, cruising the western Caribbean. Sold several of my books and got some writing done on my mystery series.
Yes, I have completed the Keuka Lake Mystery novel, and now it will go to my beta readers for review. I’ve decided that this will be the first book in a series of three books. Interestingly, I’ve already written the third book first, which is titled Murder in Spanish Springs. I’ve begun the second book with three chapters written, which has no title as yet. Originally, I was only going to write the novel Murder in Spanish Springs. The main character, John Edward Bertone, a detective that originates in the last book of the Bailie Beach Saga, captured my interest to continue writing his journey in the world of crime. All three books will be a series of his journey in life.
I’ve been of late somewhat disappointed with the results so far from the lack of exposure and support I’ve not been receiving for my writing. This is especially true of my immediate family, with the exception of my wife, who has sold many books on my behalf. I don’t get it! I’ve gotten more support from some friends and strangers that have bought my books. I wonder sometimes whether my books are not written well enough or if the subject matter is unacceptable. Yes, I’ve had doubt! My beta readers have been the best support, along with my wife, who keeps me going in continuing to write. I’ve been blessed to have several other people that are fans and like my novels. Though the number of supports is far from being large in number, the support has been encouraging enough for me to keep writing.
I’ll continue to work on my autobiography with the goal of completing it by the end of this year. The title I’ve mentioned before is Journey to My Last Penny. So, much to do this year: write two books and find a literary agent to help get my mystery series published. Try to find another way of getting my existing books promoted, since I find social media has not worked well for me. The website that was created for me has not produced any significant results as yet.
I find myself at times being like a fish out of water, not knowing what direction my writing will take me. Hoping for the right support to come at some point that will give me more exposure. I pray for guidance and believe the Lord has given me the ability to tell stories that are true to life even though I write fiction. I do love writing and creating stories that can be real to life. Some have criticized me for having my writing too explicit, especially in the love stories. I write to give the reader a vision in the story and have my stories come to life. I want most people to feel the emotions that are expressed in the story. The feedback I’ve gotten so far has expressed that I’m on the right track.
Until next month, I continue to write. I solicit your help in spreading the word about my writing. God bless and keep on reading.
